The Oyo State Government has threatened to prosecute all illegal tenants of government properties, warning that those who do so will face the full force of the law.
Olusegun Olayiwola, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, issued the warning during a tour of several of the Government Reserved Areas (GRAs), saying that anyone found inhabiting state lands illegally will be dealt with by the government.
Speaking at the Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja GRA, which covers over 100 hectares of land along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Olayiwola said the government was conducting systematic assessments of the state government’s GRAs in Ibadan in order to begin appropriate planning and development.
He also stated that the government is taking steps to begin work on underdeveloped property in the state capital’s GRAs.
He explained that this is part of the Seyi Makinde-led administration’s attempts to provide cheap housing and address the state’s growing population.
“Anyone who visits this GRA in December will realize that Governor Seyi Makinde is working hard to modernize Ibadan.”
“I assure you that all necessary infrastructure, including roads, drainage, and electricity, will be provided.” That’s why, before we start building, we’re talking to facility suppliers, “he explained.
The commissioner indicated to members of the Ajia community in Ona-Ara that the state government has put in place measures such as adequate market relocation to allow construction on the site for a contemporary residential plan.
During the tour to Lere Adigun GRA, the Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Ministry’s Ademola Ajibola, Surveyor-General, and other top government officials in the ministry.
